The Circulatory System

  Blood Circulation

The circulation of blood means that blood flows through vessels that are arranged to form a circuit or circular pattern. Blood flow from the left ventricle of the heart through blood vessels to all parts of the body and back to the right atrium of the heart. The left ventricle pumps blood into the aorta and from there, it flows into arteries that carry it into the tissues and organs of the body. The blood then moves from arteries to arterioles to capillaries. There, the vital two-way exchange of substances occurs between blood and cells. Waste substances flow from the tissues and cells into the blood for disposal by way of venules and then veins, which takes the blood back to the heart.
